Quarterly OKRs
Objectives1
Write three objectives, not ten
An objective says where you are going. Ten objectives say you have not chosen.
- State the objective without a number in it
- Check it would still matter if the tactics changed
- Confirm someone owns it by name
Key Results1
Make every key result a number
If two people could disagree about whether it happened, it is not a key result yet.
- Write the starting value and the target value
- Name where the number comes from
- Confirm you can measure it weekly, not once
Initiatives1
List the work that moves a key result
Any initiative that maps to no key result is either mislabelled or should not be done.
At Risk1
Flag a slip the week it happens
A key result declared at risk in week four can still be saved. In week twelve it cannot.
Closed1
Score honestly and write what you learned
A quarter scored generously teaches nothing and makes the next plan worse.
- Record the final number against the target
- Say whether the initiatives actually moved it
- Name one thing to stop doing next quarter

01
When to use this board
For teams setting quarterly goals who have watched OKRs turn into a list of tasks with aspirational numbers attached. Objectives carry no numbers, key results carry nothing but numbers, initiatives must map to a key result, and slipping is flagged in the week it happens rather than at quarter end.
02
How to run this board
Write three objectives without numbers.
Each objective names a direction and an owner. Add the numbers in Key Results, with start and target values.
Map every initiative to a key result.
Remove any work in Initiatives that moves no key result.
Flag slips weekly and score at quarter end.
Move a key result to At Risk the week it slips, and record the final score with one lesson in Closed.
03
What this creates
5 stacks, 4 board labels, and 5 starter cards carrying 9 checklist steps. Attachments and comments are intentionally omitted so the template stays portable.
04
Why it fits Deckloud
The template is just a recipe for standard Deck objects. No hosted workflow account, no relay backend, and no Deckloud-only object model.
05
Safe import rules
IDs are not stored. Stack and label keys are remapped at creation time, due dates use relative offsets instead of stale fixed dates, and checklists are written into the card description as ordinary Markdown task lists.
FAQ
Practical questions
Does this change my Nextcloud server schema?
No. It creates ordinary boards, stacks, labels, and cards through the normal Deck model.
Does the template include comments or attachments?
No. V1 templates are text-only because comments imply authorship and attachments vary by server/version.
Can I edit the board after creating it?
Yes. After creation it is just a normal Nextcloud Deck board.
What is the difference between a key result and an initiative?
A key result is the number that moves. An initiative is the work you believe will move it. Initiatives that map to no key result should not be on the board.
Why score honestly if the score has no consequence?
The score is the input to the next quarter's plan. A generous score produces a worse plan and teaches the team that the exercise is decorative.
