Nextcloud Deck on the desktop, what actually exists.

There is no official dedicated Deck desktop app from Nextcloud. This page lays out the real options per platform, including the one native desktop client that exists today.

The direct answer

Nextcloud Deck is a server app with a web interface; Nextcloud does not publish a standalone desktop client for it. The Nextcloud Desktop Client you may already run syncs files only and does not render Deck boards. So the desktop question is really: web app, or a native third-party client.

Your options by platform

Every option below works against the same boards on your server, so you can mix them freely.

  • Web app (any OS).

The full Deck interface in the browser. Source of truth for board admin, but it needs a connection and offers no native desktop integration.

  • Deckloud for Mac (native).

A native macOS client with direct server sync, keyboard-first board work, and queue-aware offline support. Installable via download or Homebrew.

  • Windows and Linux (browser).

No maintained native client today. The practical setup is the web app pinned as a browser app window. Community clients appear occasionally; check maintenance status before trusting one with daily work.

  • iPhone and iPad companions.

Deckloud on iPhone pairs with the Mac app for capture and due work on the go; boards stay ordinary Deck data on your server.

Common confusion: the Nextcloud Desktop Client

The official Nextcloud Desktop Client for Windows, macOS, and Linux synchronizes files and folders. It does not show Deck boards, cards, or due dates. Installing it does not give you a Deck desktop app, which is a frequent source of confusion in forum threads.

Offline work on the desktop

The web app requires a live connection. Deckloud for Mac keeps working when the server is unreachable: edits queue locally and replay when connectivity returns, which matters on trains, planes, and flaky home-lab networks.

FAQ

Practical questions

Is the Nextcloud Desktop Client the Deck app?

No. The Nextcloud Desktop Client syncs files. Deck boards live in the web interface or in dedicated clients like Deckloud for Mac.

Is there a Nextcloud Deck app for Windows?

There is no official Windows app and no maintained native client we can recommend today. Use the web app, optionally pinned as a browser app window. Deckloud itself is iPhone and macOS only.

Does Deckloud for Mac work offline?

Yes. Changes made while offline are queued locally and replayed against your Nextcloud server when the connection returns.

Do desktop clients change my Deck data?

No. Deckloud talks to the normal Deck APIs, so everything it creates or edits remains an ordinary board, stack, or card on your own server.
