Deckloud for schools and universities

Schools and universities that run their own Nextcloud server with the Deck app. Deckloud connects to that server. It needs no Deckloud account and installs nothing on Nextcloud.

• Get Deckloud in Apple School Manager under Apps and Books. The app is free, so the licenses cost nothing. See Apple School Manager.
• Install it with an MDM that supports managed app configuration, for example Jamf School, Relution or Intune.
• Preset the configuration keys: serverURL for your Nextcloud address, lockServer to allow only that server, allowAdditionalAccounts to block other accounts, analytics set to off, and orgLicenseToken for an offline license.

In self-hosted mode, the apps connect directly to your school's Nextcloud server. Boards and cards stay on that server and on the devices. With the MDM key analytics set to off, Deckloud sends no usage analytics.

For the organization license, the apps contact api.deckloud.com. It stores:

• The license: plan, status, seats, paid period, organization name (from Polar or entered for a trial), Polar customer, subscription and order IDs, a SHA-256 hash of the license key, the email address the key was sent to, the chosen group ID and the analytics policy.
• For a trial, the optional contact email an admin entered, used only for up to three emails about the trial (start, 7 days before the end, end), and a log of which of them were sent. Admins can change or remove it on the manage page.
• The bound servers: each server address, with the time it was bound. For trials, the server address, so each server gets one trial.
• Seats: the seat hash with the first and the last time it was seen. The last-seen time is updated at most once per UTC day. A seat is kept while it is in use and deleted 60 days after its last use. Anyone who can reach api.deckloud.com could report a seat hash, so Deckloud treats the count of reported users as information only. It never limits Pro or billing.
• For provider licenses: the daily peak of bound servers, for billing.
• For rate limits: SHA-256 hashes of the requesting IP address and of the other limited values, such as the license key, deleted after at most 2 days.

Devices need HTTPS access to api.deckloud.com for the license check. Allow it in your firewall or content filter. The security page has the full list of what the apps send.

An organization license gives Pro to every user in the Nextcloud group you choose, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Linux. That includes students' own devices when they sign in with their school account. Schools and universities get 50% off for as long as the license runs: enter the code EDU50 at checkout.

Payment is by card, or by Apple Pay, Google Pay and other wallets where Polar offers them. Polar is the merchant of record and sends a VAT invoice for every payment. Bank transfer and pay-by-invoice are not available: Polar does not support them, and its terms do not allow us to issue our own invoices.
